Wood and Paint color examples

WOOD SPECIES
These photos show the various woods that I use and have suggested. You can see a larger version by clicking on the image. Also, these are representative of the species. Wood color, grain, etc. varies from board to board, so some variation between these photos and the material I'd actually use is expected. Cherry, for example, can range from a light pinkish red to a deep brownish red. However, I'm pretty good a selecting material that has the color and grain that I am after, so there wouldn't be any dramatic differences.

The body of this tea cabinet is made from cherry, which darkens with age. The grid-work in the plinth is made from basswood.

This little box has a tiger maple lid, and is painted with "slate" milk paint, which is a bluish grey.
Picture
This box lid is vertical grain white pine. The pull is cocobolo.
Picture
This is vertical grain fir, which looks similar to white pine. The door is a different color because there is no finish on it yet.

This box is made from riftsawn white oak. It has walnut drawers and the drawer fronts are a custom green milk paint that I mixed.
Picture
This side table is made from walnut. The liner inside the lower cabinet is basswood.

This box is made from some figured vertical grain Douglas fir.
Picture
The box with the orange lid is quartersawn ash, and the box with the dark green lid is quartersawn maple.
PAINT COLORS
I use milk paint from Old Fashioned Milk Paint Co. You can see all the standard color options here. If you like one those, I am happy to use it. I also mix my own colors from the standard options. I will note whether a color is standard or mixed beneath the photo. I am not certain which color you have called "grey" but I think it's actually Oyster white. I also use a color called Slate that has a grey cast to it. Of course, I can also mix a custom grey. Hopefully you get an accurate idea of the colors on your screen.

Marigold yellow (standard), Federal blue (standard), Green (custom...I use this one a lot)
Picture
Soldier blue (standard, but I darken it by rubbing it with oil)
Picture
This is "slate," which is a bluish grey.
Picture
Pale green (custom)
Picture
This is the same pale green. It goes well with cherry (table parts) and cocobolo (pull).
Picture
Navy blue (Soldier blue + oil), Oyster white (standard), pale green (custom), Marigold yellow (custom). All pulls are cocobolo.
